Lisa Leinbaugh and David Bailey have been pointing their cameras at anything that catches their eye for a quarter century, ever since their dads first handed them some rolls of film to keep them out of trouble. These days they often combine photography with travels near and far and with treks into the wilderness.
Influenced by photographers such as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, John Sexton and Bruce Barnbaum, they favor a classic "fine art" style in which the quality of light reveals textures, patterns, bold forms, and moods. Subjects include nature, architecture, and anything old enough to be showing the effects of time.
Why photography? It teaches us how to see better in daily life. It’s a way to share with others the delight we find in our surroundings. And we simply enjoy the quiet time spent locked away in the darkroom practicing the obsessive craft of making a fine print.
The photographs in this
gallery were taken over the last few years in Washington, Greece, California, Patagonia and elsewhere. A few themes shine through. Fallen Leaves and Worlds of Change, which at first seem quite different, are similar collages that reveal textures not normally noticed. Grace in Girders and Branching Trees explore patterns emerging from a barrage of details. Many of the images, especially those from Fort Canby, North Head Lighthouse, Stairs at Phaistos, Snag at Trinity Alps and Lone Tree, convey shades of solitude.
Technical Details
To achieve sharpness we use a medium-format camera, religiously do the "tripod tango" (tangle?), and generally stick to slower-speed film. All images in this exhibit are traditional silver gelatin prints made on fiber-base paper processed to archival standards.

All images are available for sale, printed to approx. 11"x14" then matted to 16"x20". Prices are $250 framed or $200 unframed, plus shipping. Other sizes may be available upon request. Contact us at 206-440-9236 or at info@cascadilla-images.com.
